Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do I give/donate?

Visit our children list and choose a child to sponsor. Click on their title to visit their page and find out more information about them. If the child is available for sponsoring, there should be a button at the bottom of their profile page with Sponsor in the name. Fill out the forms to complete your tax-deductible donation.

2. I signed up, but my card hasn’t been charged. When will my card be charged?

When you signed up, there was an option to be charged on the 1st or 15th of the month. We combine all charges into two days to make accounting a little bit easier for us. If you signed up before your selected charge date, we will wait until that date arrives to finally charge your card.

3. How do I know that my card information is safe?

All transactional pages of the Josephine House website (that is, any page where you send information back to our servers) are protected by 256-bit encryption and is validated by a Secure Socket Layer. This validation is confirmed by your browser’s change in the web address (https://).

In complete compliance with PCI-DSS and other credit card standards, we do not store any “identifying” information on our servers. All credit card information is securely (through SSL) exchanged with the credit card processing company (Stripe.com) and the only information that remains on our servers are the last four digits of your credit card and type of credit card (Visa, MC, etc). We do not store the CCV code or card number. Address and name information is saved for IRS and internal records, but kept in separate databases. Your privacy and information is very important to us and therefore we only save minimal information to remind you of the payment method on file with the payment gateway. All other credit card information is kept on Stripe.com’s secure servers, who manage the PCI-DSS Level 1 Security Standard (the most stringent security standard in the world).

4. I’m outside the United States, can I still sponsor a child or donate online?

Of course! Our payment system automatically accommodates for users without the standard City, State, Zip. Just input the address information that you can that is connected with your credit card, and our system does the rest.

5. Why are some children’s support goals higher than others?

We base the children’s support level goals based on what our average monthly expenditures are for that child. There are some costs that about equal to all children (nutriment, utilities, etc). However, other costs are specific to the child and are largely based on the child’s age and/or disability (school fees, physical therapy, etc).  Therefore, some children’s goals are higher because their costs are higher. We will periodically edit these goals to reflect accurately the needs of the home.
