Another Little Angel

Angel is our newest baby who arrived on April 11th.  In Spanish, Angel is the masculine name, as Angela is feminine (pronounced with an “h”-sound for the g).  He was 2 months of age when he arrived in April, and quite dehydrated and underweight at 2.4 kilos.  He has Down’s Syndrome and had been jaundiced.  The staff have been carefully feeding him an ounce or so of milk every couple of hours.  He is doing better, though sleeping s a lot and very quiet.  We hope that with early intervention in different ways that he will have a promising future.

This past month Marleni has started walking around on her own.  She loves to explore: and always heads for the closest open door or entrance-way!  Extra diligence is needed in closing off those stairways these days!

Zoe continues to do well by her physio-therapy classes, and is getting stronger and stronger in a standing position.  She turned 3 in May!  We combined a birthday party for her and Veronica (turned 6 in May).

For Mother’s Day in May, all of the kids in elementary and in the special needs school, even the very youngest, were involved in some sort of presentation or skit.  Pictured below, Zoe, Carlos and Yomira were dressed us as little chicks in homemade costume for their class.

We are in the dry season here in the Andes of Peru.  Although we’ve had some cold, overcast days and the occasional rainfall, the hot sunny days are taken advantage of for fun- in- the- sun.  One day we set up some mini swimming pools for the children to splash around in.
